What it is clenbuterol

Introducing Clenbuterol, a steroid-like chemical that was originally developed to treat asthma in horses.

The drug is both a decongestant and a bronchodilator.

The decongestant thins the blood to lower blood pressure, while the bronchodilator dilates blood vessels to increase the amount of oxygen carried.

In some countries in Europe and Latin America, clenbuterol is also approved as a male asthma medication, but it is banned for this purpose in the United States.

In the past, veterinarians used clenbuterol in the United States to get those same horses to gain more muscle and less fat. But today, in many countries, the use of clenbuterol, even when working with animals, is prohibited by law. So, is it worth the risk to you?

The action of clenbuterol

Clenbuterol was originally intended to treat asthma, but gained controversial popularity as a weight loss aid in bodybuilding.

The drug stimulates both the heart and the central nervous system. It has the same effect on the body as adrenaline and amphetamines.

It is also a beta-2 agonist, which is the opposite of beta-blockers. While beta-blockers reduce the production of adrenaline and noradrenaline, clenbuterol increases it.

This action of Clenbuterol causes various side effects. Observed:

  • Decision and increased activity;
  • Excitement and nervousness;
  • Acceleration of metabolism, resulting in accelerated fat burning.

Who uses Clenbuterol and why?

While Clenbuterol was originally used as an asthma remedy, today it is used by bodybuilders, competitive athletes, and those who just want to lose weight.

Clenbuterol can be used as a weight loss aid because it can speed up metabolism. In addition to reducing body fat and reducing weight, it also allows you to maintain muscle mass and strength at the same time.

Clenbuterol has become the secret ingredient in the diets of “stars” and famous athletes.

A study that analyzed data from two regional poison control centers in the United States found that 11 out of 13 reported cases of clenbuterol use were taken for weight loss or as part of bodybuilding.

The World Anti-Doping Agency has imposed an indefinite ban on the use of clenbuterol in-competition and out-of-competition.

Dosage and forms of administration

Clenbuterol can be taken as tablets or as an injection. Both methods are characterized by specific risks and unavoidable side effects.

Athletes taking Clenbuterol use cycles that consist of on and off periods. Such a program may include 2 days of clenbuterol on 2 days off, or a week of use followed by a week off.

The dose varies depending on several factors, including gender and individual tolerance of the drug.

Both methods are risky. Clenbuterol injections cause scarring at the injection sites as well as the formation of air bubbles in the blood, while the tablets affect the liver.

In Europe and Latin America, when Clenbuterol is used to open the airways in asthma, the recommended dose is only 0.02 to 0.04 milligrams per day.

Clenbuterol Side Effects

The reason clenbuterol has been banned in many countries and has caused heated discussion is that many negative side effects have been associated with its use.

Most of them are similar to those caused by amphetamine use:

  • anxiety, sleep disturbances;
  • Headache;
  • tremor;
  • decrease in potassium content in the body;
  • profuse sweating;
  • high body temperature.

These risks may seem small, but taking clenbuterol can have a negative effect on the heart: palpitations, atrial fibrillation, or irregular and rapid heartbeat, as well as blood pressure problems.

The increased heart rate and vasodilation caused by this substance can lead to an enlarged heart. This is a condition in which the heart grows to an abnormal size, which can lead to a heart attack and possibly death.

Another danger is that clenbuterol contains dopamine, known as the pleasure hormone.

Dopamine is closely linked to addiction, which means that regular use of clenbuterol can also cause it.
In many countries, the drug is banned for feeding animals whose meat is consumed by humans.

In 1994, 140 people in Spain were hospitalized for consuming meat containing clenbuterol. Similarly, in 2006, 336 people were poisoned by pork in China.

Some studies have found signs of another terribly deadly side effect of taking clenbuterol.

Scientists suggest that people who take high doses of this drug for a long time may show signs of hardening of the walls of the aorta.

In other words, the heart artery gradually loses its elasticity, and in the event of a sharp increase in blood pressure, such as when performing heavy squats with a barbell, it may not be able to withstand it and just burst.

The least you will get from taking Clenbuterol regularly is a fast heartbeat, possible vomiting, and chest pain.

More recently, the Department of Emergency Medicine in Newton, Massachusetts recorded two cases of treatment resulting from the use of clenbuterol. Young men aged 18 and 22 were found to be bodybuilders and complained of heart palpitations, nausea and vomiting shortly after taking the substance.

Research on Clenbuterol and its side effects is ongoing today in many countries around the world.

At the United Medical College in Beijing, China, tests on rabbits found that small doses of clenbuterol have minimal effect, however, medium doses severely affect heart rate in animals and higher doses can cause death in the subjects tested.
